Snowy Hydro is a dynamic, integrated energy business that has been providing on-demand, reliable energy to Australia for generations. Snowy Hydro owns and operates a powerful combination of generation assets, including the mighty Snowy Mountains Scheme, gas and diesel plants, and contracted wind and solar energy. We also provide electricity and gas to over 1 million retail customers through our retail brands Red Energy and Lumo Energy. Snowy 2.0 is Australia's largest committed renewable energy project. This nation-building project will provide on-demand energy and large-scale storage for many generations to come.

The role:

An exciting opportunity exists for a Water Resource Advisor to join our Water Modelling team, providing the business with timely insights and advice on the Snowy Scheme's water resources to maximise business outcomes through the optimisation of physical, commercial and regulatory constraints.

Reporting to the Manager Water Modelling, this permanent, full time role is preferably based in Cooma, NSW with flexibility to be based in other major cities on the East Coast.

Your key responsibilities in this role will include:

  • Operate and maintain daily, monthly and annual water accounting applications
  • Operational simulation modelling and insights
  • Quality control and assurance of input and output data
  • Ongoing research and development to improve business applications
  • Provide strategic direction for development of the hydrometric network
  • Identify improvement opportunities, develop business case and specify potential application upgrades, with a focus on automation and improving real time data quality

We're looking for someone with:

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications eg. B. Engineering, Science, Environment
  • 3+ years of water engineering experience including applied hydrology and hydraulic engineering
  • Detailed knowledge of the National Electricity Market
  • An understanding of hydro power operational, hydrological and meteorological processes.
  • Understanding of water modelling practices with demonstrated programing skills an advantage
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships with key stakeholders
  • Strong communication skills, verbal and written
  • Exposure to project management would be an advantage but not essential
