Field Area Manager - Networks
Ventia has been awarded a five-year partnership with Telstra to provide lifecycle management and fixed network services for Telstra’s digital infrastructure.
Ventia’s Telecommunication Team is searching for a Field Area Manager to oversee operations in WA, NT and SA. Candidates from any of these states are welcome to apply. The Field Area Manager will provide optimum production and cost outcomes through the management of direct labour and subcontractors in a healthy and safe work environment.

About the Role
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Conduct construction walk-outs, planning, scoping and activities to ensure that site works can be constructed efficiently in accordance with the construction plans and delivery schedule
- Engage with and brief subcontractors on their scope of works for construction, escalating any issues to the Area Manager/Senior Field Area Manager as needed.
- Provide leadership and direction to both internal and subcontractor workforce to deliver the program of works
- Analyse tasks and select appropriate resources in conjunction with the Project Engineer, Project Manager and/or Area Manager
- Escalate and address all resource requirements and shortages with the Area Manager/Senior Field Area Manager
- Escalate and address all resource requirements and shortages with the Area Supervisor/Superintendent.
- Liaise with Site Engineers to ensure materials and equipment are readily available ahead of construction activities and escalate any critical stock deficiencies to the Area Manager/Senior Field Area Manager in a timely manner.
- Report on daily site events, progress as well as any variations to contract schedules and work volumes
- Ensure compliance to Work Instructions (WIs), Method of Procedures (MOPs) or plans provided
- Develop and maintain strong collaborative working relationship with the key stakeholders
- Contribute and promote best and safe practices ensuring that “Safety and Heath above all else” by implementing safety policies, procedures and legislative requirements
Required Skills and Experience
To be successful in your application your experience will ideally include:
- Willing to travel in remote areas and on roster, when required
- 5+ years of industry experience in a similar position
- Civil Background i.e. previous experience working with Directional Drills, Ploughing, Open Trenching, ACM Removal, Pit, Pipe and optic fibre installation
- Subcontractor management
- Understanding of the Telstra Copper and Optical Fibre Network
- Experience with Bore, Trench, and Plough construction techniques.
- Ability to read and understand Telstra Data Base of Records (DBORs), i.e. Multiman, Straight Line Diagrams, etc.
- Understand Telstra Traffic Management (TM’s)
- Must be able to read and understand Dial Before You Dig (DBYD) plans.
- Sound computer skills
