The Role

As a Site Tunnel Engineer, you’ll ensure the Principal Contractor’s site operations meet agreed deliverables and performance standards for civil works. Based at Lobs Hole, you’ll work a 14/7 roster, either on a Drive-In Drive-Out (DIDO) or Fly-In Fly-Out (FIFO) basis. Your primary focus will be working closely with the Contractor to meet the Employer’s Requirements (ER), while upholding health and safety standards and promoting Snowy Values.

Contractor Oversight and Monitoring

  • Ensure tunneling and underground work complies with IFC drawings, specifications, and relevant documents.
  • Collaborate with the Contractor to assess ground conditions, geohazards, and mitigation strategies, while collecting data for classification and remeasurement.
  • Monitor tunnel segment installation, spoil deposition, and water inflows, ensuring quality control and adherence to approved methods.
  • Review Contractor performance, reports, and resources to ensure compliance with the Employer’s Requirements and address any issues related to delays or quality.

Environmental Management

  • Report environmental concerns to the Senior Project Manager and Environmental Team.

Quality Management

  • Support the Quality Management team and Project Engineer in overseeing tunnel engineering work, ensuring compliance with contract requirements.
  • Ensure the Contractor provides the necessary documentation and follows the latest IFC drawings and specifications.
  • Monitor daily site activities, including equipment, KPIs, weather, and road conditions, and manage Hold Points, ITPs, ITP progress, and NCRs.
  • Maintain up-to-date site drawings, records, and documentation, and manage QA and non-conformance communications through ACONEX.

What You'll Bring

A degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering with experience in tunnel engineering experience on large-scale projects. You’ll have expertise in tunnel construction, excavation techniques, and trenchless methods, alongside a strong understanding of geology and structural engineering. You’ll bring attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective collaboration skills. Adaptable to changing demands, you’ll excel in interpreting technical documents and ensuring the safe execution of work, while demonstrating strong communication and understanding of Quality, OH&S, EEO, and Environmental standards.
