Snowy Hydro is a dynamic, integrated energy business that has been providing on-demand, reliable energy to Australia for generations. Snowy Hydro owns and operates a powerful combination of generation assets, including the mighty Snowy Mountains Scheme, gas and diesel plants, and contracted wind and solar energy. We also provide electricity and gas to about 1 million retail customers through our retail brands Red Energy and Lumo Energy. Snowy 2.0 is Australia's largest committed renewable energy project. This nation-building project will provide on-demand energy and large-scale storage for many generations to come.

An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced people leader to join Snowy Hydro on a full time, permanent basis as an Electrical and Controls Engineering Manager. This role will see you provide leadership of the Electrical and Controls team alongside managing electrical and controls design, quality requirements and technical support processes across major overhauls and upgrade projects in the Production Group. Please note this role is in Cooma, or surrounding regions; relocation packages are available.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the team in achieving goals of long term asset safety, reliability and availability by ensuring the designs, procurement and repairs meet these goals.
  • Establishing and maintaining a constructive culture in the team by demonstrating, modelling, and utilising appropriate leadership behaviours, techniques and systems.
  • Setting performance measures and plans to improve the performance of direct reports, and support the team and their individual growth.
  • Identifying and anticipating project related business risks to ensure appropriate controls are implemented and maintained through the life of the project.
  • Providing technical support to the Project Managers and Outage/Site Managers as a major stakeholder monitor the Asset Reliability.
  • Identifying and implementing continuous improvements for inefficient work processes to increase the productivity of the team or wider business processes.
  • Delivering accurate and timely reporting on the teams productivity and issues arising in a proactive and timely manner and provide control strategies where required.
  • Working with the Project Managers and Outage/Site Managers to coordinate activities with all interfacing up-stream and down-stream teams to ensure effective transitions and constructive interactions.

In addition to the above, our ideal applicant will be able to demonstrate:

  • Electrical Engineering degree satisfying the eligibility requirements for Corporate Membership of the Institution of Engineers Australia.
  • Highly developed interpersonal communication and negotiating skills, to varying levels of seniority
  • Minimum 15 years experience in managing large scale, complex, high risk, varying and/or multiple electrical and control system replacement or repair projects.
  • Management and engineering skills with the ability to drive onsite and offsite works and engineering tasks from inception to completion, including the management of stakeholders, while taking into account broader business drivers.
  • Coaching others in technical and project management issues.
