The Role

As the Health and Safety Initiative Lead, you will be responsible for creating and implementing change initiatives that align with the HSE strategy. Reporting to the HSE Systems Manager, this role demands extensive expertise in applying innovative safety approaches, outstanding communication skills, and proficiency in evidence-based practices to develop key performance indicators.

Responsibilities include:

  • Designing and Implementing Health and Safety Programs: Design and implement comprehensive health and safety programs and initiatives tailored to the specific needs of the project, incorporating industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Risk Assessment and Mitigation: Conduct regular review of the MAP Program in order to facilitate ongoing improvement practices for Critical Risk identification and Management.
  • Training and Education: Develop and deliver health and safety training programs for all project personnel, including workers, contractors, and subcontractors.
  • Safety Compliance Monitoring: Monitor safety trends and conduct analysis to provide insights into targeted Health and safety initiatives.
  • Incident Investigation and Reporting: Review Health and Safety investigations into incidents, accidents, and near misses. Analyse root causes and develop and implement safety promotion material and other initiatives to prevent reoccurance.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in health and safety performance. Collaborate with project stakeholders to implement innovative solutions and best practices to enhance safety outcomes and minimise risk exposure.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain positive relationships with project stakeholders, including contractors, sub contractors, regulatory agencies. Serve as a point of contact for health and safety initiatives.

You'll Bring To The Team:

Experience in safety roles and experience in learning teams, you should ideally hold a Safety Management System Auditing qualification. Your background should include expertise in risk management, particularly with Fatality Prevention, Major Hazards, and Critical Control programs. You must possess strong influencing and negotiation skills, be proactive and detail-oriented, and effectively manage and adapt to changes in work tasks and environments. The role requires the ability to identify issues, make timely decisions, develop innovative solutions, and seek assistance when needed. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential for conveying information to both individuals and groups.
