Group Compliance Advice and Assurance Lead


RACQ Compliance and Advisory team are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Compliance Advice and Assurance Lead to join our dynamic team. The incumbent will play a critical role in providing objective review and challenge of business owner implementation of the compliance management framework. They will oversee the ongoing effectiveness of compliance controls within functional business units and Assistance business, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct second-line compliance assessments as required, overseeing business owner resolution of incidents, root cause rectification, and member remediation.
  • Support the Manager Compliance Advisory in completing the three-year compliance assurance program, providing factual and pragmatic reporting to executive and board committees.
  • Promote a strong compliance culture across the Group through education and awareness initiatives.
  • Develop strong working relationships with first-line, second-line, and third-line colleagues to achieve target risk and compliance maturity.
  • Advise nominated obligation owners on their duties, challenges, and opportunities.
  • Support the development of compliance solutions and target behaviours in line with risk transformation directives and compliance maturity requirements.

About you:

  • Tertiary education or qualifications in law, risk, or compliance
  • 5-7 years relevant experience
  • Strong working knowledge of banking and insurance operations, and Australian regulatory environment, contemporary corporate governance and change drivers
  • Experience within a compliance, risk or audit management role acquired in a complex, matrixed organisation
  • Demonstrated experience in process and management control design combined with the expert ability to understand operational and compliance risks inherent or emerging
  • Continuous improvement coaching, facilitation, and advocacy
  • Courage to speak-up regardless of position when things are wrong
  • Critical analysis of problems to uncover hidden insights
  • 3+ years delivering compliance control assurance over Technology or Finance, and other service functions
  • 3+ years assessing business incidents for compliance risk, root cause and potential breaches; providing second line challenge of business incident resolution activities
  • Fascination with effective architecture to administer Australian financial services (AFS) licensee requirements and obligations including product design and distribution obligations monitoring; responsible manager coverage; monitoring and supervision frameworks; general compliance; dispute resolution; and conduct and disclosure arrangements
  • Knowledge of laws that apply to banking, and insurance sectors. Key legislation includes Competition and Consumer Act 2010; Australian Consumer Law (ACL); Corporations Act 2001; Privacy Act 1988 and Australian Privacy Principles; Corporations Amendment (FoFA) Act 2012; Anti – Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing Act 2006; National Consumer Credit Protection Act 2010
  • Demonstrable experience researching and recommending improvements to enterprise-wide frameworks to enable sustained compliance with Australian prudential frameworks, regulation, and ISO 37301:2021 Compliance Management Systems
  • Highly developed analytical skills, demonstrating the capability to analyse and interpret complex information from a broad range of sources (locally and internationally) and to present findings in a clear and compelling manner
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrable skills to apply Excel and other MS tools efficiently and with high degree of accuracy.
