Commercial Manager


The Opportunity 
We are seeking a proactive and knowledgeable Commercial Manager to join our team. This role requires strong relationships with project teams, a natural curiosity to investigate issues and the technical expertise to provide sound recommendations based on commercial, financial and legal positions. You will play a critical role in navigating complex commercial matters and offering strategic advice on the best course of action.

The successful candidate will initially focus on our Across Government Facilities Management Arrangement (AGFMA) contract in South Australia but will have the opportunity to contribute to a range of Defence and Social Infrastructure contracts across Australia. 

Some interstate travel will be required. This is a full-time position on a 12-month fixed-term contract.

Key Responsibilities

  • Commercial Expertise & Risk Management: Provide expert advice across projects, ensuring strategic solutions for contractual risks and entitlements.
  • Contracts & Claims Advisory: Offer subject matter expertise on claims, disputes, variations, contract extensions and compliance to protect business interests.
  • Strategic Collaboration: Partner with procurement, subcontract and legal teams to optimise contracting arrangements, reviews and compliance processes.
  • Contract Drafting & Management: Prepare, review and negotiate contract terms, notices, extensions and leveraged works, ensuring accuracy and risk mitigation.
  • Financial Modelling & Decision Support: Interpret financial data, build models and provide insights that guide commercial decision-making.
  • Project & Leadership Support: Maintain commercial registers and provide recommendations to project managers and directors before issues escalate.

Skills & Experience

  • Qualifications: Degree in Business, Commerce, or Law (preferred).
  • Commercial & Legal Expertise: Strong knowledge of service contracts and contract law with hands-on commercial management experience.
  • Strategic & Analytical Thinking: Data-driven decision-making to optimise value and mitigate risks.
  • Customer-Centric Approach: Proven experience in client engagement, negotiation and relationship management.
  • Communication & Collaboration: Skilled in stakeholder engagement with clear and persuasive written and verbal communication.
  • Agility & Problem-Solving: Adaptable work methods, effective planning and the ability to translate complex contracts into clear, actionable insights.
