About the role

We are currently seeking a Catchment Ranger to provide daytime and after hours support and response across catchment areas and Surface Water Operations sites. Based at the Kelmscott depot, this is a permanent opportunity will see you inspect, maintain our assets and conduct surveillance within our Surface and Groundwater Catchment areas, to ensure compliance with relevant business management processes and systems.

What the role will involve:

  • Organise and ensure the implementation of techniques for catchment surveillance, catchment sampling and incident response.
  • Monitor and sample streams and reservoirs, perform surveillance of surface and ground water catchment areas and monitor land users and public recreation activities to ensure water quality protection.
  • Perform surveillance of surface and ground water catchment areas in accordance with catchment management schedules
  • Conduct routine after hour’s patrols and emergency contingencies (Bushfires, Missing Persons, Pollution Response)
  • Monitor land users and public recreation activities to ensure water quality protection in accordance with catchment management strategies.
  • Conduct inspections for Mining, Timber Harvesting and Permitted property operations are monitored to ensure water quality protection in accordance with catchment management strategies. Conduct information support activities as directed. (i.e. Corporate, professional, and public)
  • Support/liaise with other agencies such as Police, DBCA, Shires and Fisheries, with regards to joint patrols and contingencies
  • Enforce bylaws in accordance with the DWER delegated authority.

Desirable skills and experience:

  • Certificate III of National Water Industry Package or experience in Surface Water Operations or trade qualification equivalent. (or progression towards)
  • Certificate IV in Leadership or Management (or progression towards) Considerable experience in catchment management and operation of surface water schemes
  • Suitable previous field based and appropriate industry experience/qualifications including extensive experience in a customer service role with the public.
  • Catchment Ranger Level 2 and/or equivalent experience
  • Western Australian “C” Class Drivers Licence (4WD experience desirable)
  • Mobile computing experience managing work orders and completing reports,
  • Possess physically capacity and capability to undertake surveillance, monitoring, and by-law enforcement
  • Considerable experience in either water-related operations, or customer service-related role.
