The Opportunity
As part of Ventia’s Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) commitments we are currently seeking applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples who are interested in a career in the corrections industry.
The role will commence on a casual contract and you will be paid during a 5-week training course based in Adelaide. Note: If you are travelling from Port Augusta for the training, you will be supplied with meals and accommodation during your 5 weeks in Adelaide.
Once the course is completed, you will gain employment as a Trainee Care & Custody Officer and work towards receiving a certificate III in Correctional Practice.
The Candidate
Successful candidates should have a flexible approach and the skills and ability to deal with people from a differing and diverse range of backgrounds. You'll need to be able to communicate effectively and manage conflict or challenging situations in a calm and assured manner. Our officers are non-judgemental and committed to treating everyone with dignity and respect.
Your duties will include but are not limited to:
* Providing for the safety and security of Persons in Custody
* Transport Persons in Custody between prisons, hospitals & courts
* Care for Persons in Custody whilst admitted to Hospital
* Care for Persons in Custody whilst in Court Custody

* High safety and security focus
* Be willing to obtain a First Aid Certificate
* Available to travel (road and air)
No experience needed as Ventia will provide you with all the professional training required to fully undertake and succeed in this role.
You will need to have Australian Working Rights (birth certificate or passport) and have the ability to obtain and maintain a National Police Check, Working with Children Check and be prepared to undergo a pre-employment medical including a drug & alcohol test in order to be eligible for these positions.
