Senior Platforms Engineer


An exciting permanent opportunity to join as a Senior Platforms Engineer


The Senior Platforms Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining scalable and reliable platform infrastructure to support HCF's digital operations. This role involves developing and maintaining automation capabilities for system deployment, configuration, and monitoring, as well as optimising system performance to ensure high availability and reliability for both on-premises and cloud infrastructure.

Key Tasks

  • Design, implement, and maintain scalable and reliable platform infrastructure.
  • Optimise system performance and ensure high availability and reliability for both on-premises and cloud infrastructure.
  • Implement and manage security measures to protect data and systems that align to HCF Cyber standards.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex technical issues.
  • Provide technical advice and expertise that aligns and empowers the HCF engineering & delivery teams to focus on innovation, by promoting adoption and re-use of the HCF technology.
  • Monitor system performance and ensure regular maintenance and updates occur.
  • Develop and manage backup and disaster recovery plans.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior team members.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to support business objectives.

Essentials:

  • Solid 5-7 years in system administration or platform engineering roles, with proven experience in managing and leading technical projects.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent industry certification and experience.
  • Strong knowledge of virtualisation, storage, networking, and cloud services.
  • Strong knowledge of server operating systems, configuration, patching, SOE builds and application deployment.
  • Proficiency in automation tools and scripting languages (e.g. Ansible, Terraform, PowerShell).
  • In-depth understanding of security protocols and best practices.
  • Demonstrated understanding of foundation services (e.g. DNS, DHCP, NTP and certificates).
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Desirable (Must have at least out of the following)

  • Experience in regulated industry, such as APRA.
  • Demonstrated experience with VMware and HCI platforms (e.g. Nutanix, PowerFlex)
  • Demonstrated experience with Windows Sever, Red Hat or SUSE operating systems
  • Demonstrated experience with Active Directory, Microsoft Configuration Manager (MECM), Ansible Tower and Satellite
  • Experience in cloud services such as Azure Arc, Azure Monitor, M365, Intune and Conditional Access policies.
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Knowledge of database management systems (e.g., MS SQL, AWS RDS).
