Procurement Category Manager


The Procurement Category Manager is responsible for delivering sustainable procurement value through category management including strategic sourcing, key improvement initiatives, commercial negotiations and driving the supplier management activities. The role is accountable for large, complex portfolios with high degree of complexity in spend categories.


The position will also support the development or Procurement frameworks and processes to advance the function and delivery of Procurements 3 year plan. This will be a highly visible role within the organisation and will work with senior leaders across the HCF Group.

About the role

Join HCF's Procurement team as IT Procurement Category Manager based in our newly refurbished Head Office in Sydney CBD. This is a full-time opportunity with a hybrid working model (2-3 days in our office and the rest working from home).

Role Responsibilities

  • Accountable for large, complex portfolios with high degree of complexity in spend categories

  • Responsible for planning and managing the end-to-end lifecycle for assigned procurement categories, developing value generation strategies and delivering projects and programmes to translate these strategies into benefits for HCF

  • Responsible for proactive development and management of a procurement initiative pipeline, developing Leading and managing strategic sourcing activities, negotiations, tender evaluation and key initiatives through to contracting and implementation

  • Accountable for driving compliance to the Supplier Management Framework across spend categories and the delivery of activities in collaboration with business stakeholders

  • Develop strong relationships and collaborative with HCF business stakeholders, Procurement colleagues and supplier representatives to achieve best value outcomes

  • Provide insights to the business on the supply market, spend, performance, opportunities & risks to support informed decision making

  • Responsible for providing coaching and advice to Category Managers

  • Responsible for supporting the development of key processes documentation and policy

  • Represent the Head of Procurement where required


About You

You are an IT Procurement Category Manager with demonstrated experience in sourcing a breadth of IT categories, delivering end to end sourcing projects for systems and solutions. You will be experienced in negotiations with IT vendors and have worked directly with GMs / Heads of IT.

You will be a collaborative team player with the ability to coach and mentor members of the team.

  • Bachelor's degree (Business, Supply Chain Management, Finance or Information Technology)

  • 5-7 years' experience in mid to senior procurement (Category Manger & above) required

  • Industry certification or membership, e.g. CIPS

  • Significant business, commercial and financial acumen

  • A strong understanding of customer experience and customer centricity principles

  • Demonstrated ability to rapidly build relationships with key stakeholders, working across organisational structures with a confident, collaborative, results oriented approach

  • Advanced knowledge of Procurement practices and driving value from vendors

  • Experience producing and measuring cost savings within a cross-functional team environment

  • Ability to use commercial and quantitative data to manage category performance as well as supplier performance
