Head of Delivery
The Head of Delivery is a leadership role within the Delivery Management Office, responsible for setting the strategic vision and direction of the Delivery Practice. This role champions the integration of Agile, Waterfall, and hybrid methodologies to ensure optimal project delivery across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Set the strategic vision and direction for the Delivery Practice, ensuring alignment with organisational goals.
- Oversee delivery execution, ensuring standards are met and acting as an escalation point for critical challenges.
- Develop and sustain a high-performing community of practice, promoting innovation, continuous improvement, and delivery excellence.
- Work with the Enterprise Portfolio Governance Office to establish and embed an appropriate pipeline and demand management process.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders and IT platform leaders to ensure transparent planning and realistic delivery commitments
- Own and manage the end-to-end delivery portfolio, ensuring alignment with business strategy and priorities. Establish and maintain a demand intake and prioritization framework to optimize delivery sequencing based on capacity and business impact.
- Work with delivery teams to assess capacity, forecast resource needs, and balance workload across teams. Ensure realistic and achievable portfolio commitments by aligning initiatives with available resources and capabilities.
- Develop and maintain a robust delivery framework, including best practices for Agile, Waterfall and hybrid delivery models.
- Lead the evolution of capabilities within the practice by implementing training programs, knowledge-sharing sessions, cross-skilling and fostering continuous learning and development.
- Manage a team (comprising of 30-40 individuals) ensuring effective resource allocation, workload balancing and overall team performance.
- Mentor and coach members of the practice, helping them develop skills and competencies to support both individual and organisational growth.
- Champion an agile mindset within teams, encouraging adaptability, responsiveness, and a commitment to continuous improvement in delivery practices.
- Serve as a key contact for business leaders and stakeholders to ensure that project objectives align with business goals and are delivered on time, within scope, and on budget.
- Act as a point of escalation for complex challenges related to the provision of delivery services, driving solutions through collaboration and strategic thinking.
Essentials
- In-depth understanding of both Agile and Waterfall delivery methodologies with experience in leading large-scale projects and programs.
- Strong negotiation and relationship building skills with both internal and external clients and partners.
- Proven experience leading and developing high performing teams (managing offshore teams is also desirable).
- Ability to oversee multiple projects within a portfolio, ensuring priorities align with business objectives.
- Experience in resource and capacity planning to ensure optimal team performance and delivery of outcomes.
- Experience in portfolio management, including demand management, capacity planning, and risk management. Proven ability to manage a complex portfolio of projects and deliver value to the organization.
- Skilled in identifying, assessing and mitigating risks within delivery processes ensuring issues are managed proactively.
- Experience in driving small change on a continuously delivery cycle using metrics and feedback to refine delivery practices.
- Knowledge of enterprise delivery managements tools and experience leveraging automation to improve efficiency and transparency.
- Skilled in delivery executive-level presentations and reports, providing clear insights into delivery portfolio performance, delivery status, risks and successes.
- Previous leadership in the delivery of project portfolio.
- Previous leadership and stakeholder management experience.
- Proven ability to drive to outcomes on a continuous basis.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.

- Change management experience and knowledge of change practices.
