Indigenous pre-employment traineeships
Essential Energy partnered with recruitment and training organisations Maxima and the Aboriginal Employment Strategy (AES) in a unique program aimed at boosting potential Indigenous employment opportunities.
The Essential Energy Indigenous pre-employment traineeship programs offer participants the chance to obtain valuable nationally recognised qualifications and skills within a supportive workplace environment.
Successful Indigenous applicants participate in a range of business activities to support their learning and development. This includes hands-on experience to assist in the installation, construction and maintenance of our electricity network and within the business.
A lack of qualifications, certificates and licences can often create a barrier for Indigenous community members considering apprenticeship programs. The pre-employment traineeship program aims to address this issue directly.
Trainees are exposed to opportunities that will help them gain the industry-specific skills required to be successful in an energy distribution business. They will undertake activities such as operating vehicles, plant and equipment and apply the knowledge they have learnt to our overhead, underground and overall distribution business.
Successful applicants work towards attaining:
- A nationally-recognised Certificate II in Business and related applicable skill sets;
- A WorkCover NSW Construction Induction certificate;
- A driver licence (if not already obtained); and
- Other relevant and required industry and business requirements.
We are committed to providing opportunities that encourage diversity and inclusion in the workplace. It is hoped the development of foundation skills for those involved may open the door for future opportunities with Essential Energy.
